Two-Minute Drill: Updates from Ohio State's First Practice
By Tony Gerdeman

COLUMBUS — The Buckeyes held their first practice of fall camp on Monday. The freshmen practiced in the morning while the veterans practiced in the afternoon. The media was allowed into practice for the first 30 minutes or so. After practice Urban Meyer spoke with the media. Here are the highlights.

Practice Updates

+ Dismissed defensive lineman Tracy Sprinkle has been reinstated to the football team following his recent plea deal to lesser charges. He did not practice in the afternoon but did so in the morning.

+ The first-team defense was essentially the same as it was this spring. I only saw one drill that even had an entire defensive unit on the field, but the lineup looked like this:

RE - Joey Bosa
DT - Michael Bennett
DT - Adolphus Washington
LE - Noah Spence
WLB - Joshua Perry
MLB - Curtis Grant
SLB - Darron Lee
CB - Doran Grant
CB - Armani Reeves
FS - Cameron Burrows/Vonn Bell
SS - Tyvis Powell

+ Freshman Sam Hubbard is back at linebacker after moving to tight end during the summer. He is now wearing #49.

+ Redshirt freshman wide receiver James Clark did not look limited in any way during drills following his leg injury last season.

+ Linebacker Raekwon McMillan and receiver Johnnie Dixon were the only two freshmen who practiced with the veterans in the afternoon. This signifies how advanced they are at this stage.

+ Alabama transfer center Chad Lindsay practiced with the freshmen this morning. Redshirt freshman cornerback Gareon Conley and redshirt freshman defensive tackle Michael Hill weren't with the afternoon group.

+ Urban Meyer spoke with his team at midfield and told them that he wanted them to be the best team in the nation on August 30, and that's what each practice is meant to accomplish.

Urban Meyer Updates

+ Meyer: “I'm really impressed with our freshman class.” Body types of Dante Booker, Kyle Berger and Sam Hubbard, all the way to Noah Brown and Parris Campbell. Long athletes. Marshon Lattimore and Erick Smith as well. Meyer says he wants to get them all ready to play on the special teams this year.

+ The veteran practice was mostly no huddle today.
