Five for Friday: Emptying Out This Week's Notebook
By Tony Gerdeman

COLUMBUS — There's been quite a bit said by the Buckeyes and their coaches this week, but I haven't been able to get to all of it, so I'm going to try to remedy that a bit in this week's Five for Friday.

Normally during the season this spot is reserved for things you'd be saying after the game, but since this is a family site, I decided to go with this more peaceful and loving route. Don't worry, though, there is still some angst in the words to follow.

1. At what point do the Buckeyes give help to Isaiah Prince?

As Kyle Morgan diagrammed for us earlier in the week, the Buckeyes have done things earlier in the season to help their pass blocking, like keeping a tight end or running back in, or rolling away from pressure. However, they didn't do much -- or any -- of those things against Penn State, choosing instead to play a lot of five wides.

As you remember, right tackle Isaiah Prince had a very rough outing against the Nittany Lions. If the same thing happens this weekend against talented Northwestern pass rusher Ifeadi Odenigbo, will the Buckeyes look to find Prince some help?

"Yeah that’s something we have to address, when a guy is struggling or having a night you know how do you make his job a little easier, how do you relieve him," said offensive coordinator Ed Warinner. "Because he’s a good player, he’s talented, he’s had a good week of practice but yeah absolutely there are things you could do and those are things that we have to have ready to go to help guys."

They spent time working with Prince this week and they expect him to be better this Saturday than he was last Saturday. Warinner was also clear to mention that the problems don't just belong to Prince alone.

"Everybody needs to get better," he said. "Isaiah is working on the things he needs to get better at. We’ve addressed those and he’s not the only person that has areas they need to improve. We just didn’t do enough good things. My evaluation, when we get down to that red zone we gotta make sure we punch it in there and not settle for field goals and come away with some touchdowns."
