Buckeyes Not Satisfied Despite Gritty Win over Gophers
By Caroline Rice

COLUMBUS- “This is Big Ten basketball and it’s a grind. The thing is just embracing the fight and embracing the flow of the game, stuff like that. We just realized we were going to have to compete and play harder” said Junior center Trevor Thompson following the six-point win over Minnesota.

The Golden Gophers put pressure on the Buckeyes throughout the whole game going on runs as high as twelve points.  This also included other significant runs of  10-2 and 7-0.

For Senior Forward Marc Loving, the Buckeyes performance on attempting to withstand the runs of the Golden Gophers was not ideal.

“We didn’t play as well as we wanted to during that stretch, we had some good segments which got us the lead but we just gotta be better than that in terms of keeping our opponent down when we do have a lead and not letting them back in the game” said Loving.

Even though the Buckeyes blew a 17-point lead and made the game as close as two points, they found a way to close out the game with a win and hold out against the fights put up by Minnesota.

Thompson ended the game with a career high 19 points while grabbing 10 rebounds and blocking three shots. It was his tenth career double-double and seventh of this season. Junior forward Jae’Sean Tate also added 10 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal. Loving poured in 19 points while adding two rebounds and two assists.

Despite these impressive performances that kept the Buckeyes in the game, they are still not satisfied and are not taking any time to relax and feel good about this win.

“It’s definitely frustrating when we blew the lead that we had, but we have been in similar situations throughout the season” said Thompson.  “Those lapses and how we played today wasn’t good enough. We gotta continue to just play better because we’re not satisfied what-so-ever and we know we have a lot of work to do. We’re going to continue to keep working, continue to keep chipping away and continue to keep competing”
