Same Old Same Old. Poor Three Point Shooting Leads to Loss to UCLA
By John Porentas

COLUMBUS - The prevailing wisdom heading into Ohio State's clash with No. 2 UCLA was that the Buckeyes would have to shoot better from the three point line than they had recently because in their previous two outings they couldn't throw it in the ocean.

Make that three in a row.

OSU shot a pathetic 5 of 24 (21 percent) from three and turned the ball over 18 times to fall to UCLA  by a final score of 86-73 in Las Vegas.

Given the turnovers and shooting woes, the Buckeyes actually did a good job of hanging with the Bruins. OSU made three of their five threes in the first half and coincidentally trailed by just three at the intermission at 40-37.

They should have quit while they were that close. UCLA opened the second half with a 11-3 run that gave them a 51-40 lead with 16:48 left to play in the game. The Buckeyes could never really recover from the run.

OSU was competitive enough to draw within six on three different occasions in the second half, and it felt for the world like if they could get a big shot and get over the six-point hump they could have a chance. They never got that shot. Instead they got untimely turnovers that helped UCLA keep the lead at about 10 through most of the second half.

The Buckeyes were led by senior forward Marc Loving who scored 19 points on 7 of 11 shooting that included 3 of 6 from three. Junior forward Jae'Sean Tate added 15 and junior forward Kaita Bates-Diop 13.

OSU got very little point production from the post position. Starter Micah Potter scored three and Trevor Thompson 4 to combine for seven points from the post. Three point shooters Kam Williams, JaQuan Lyle and Bates-Diop combined to go 2 for 15 from beyond the arc. Willams was 1-6, Lyle 1-5 and Bates-Diop 0-4.

UCLA had four double-digit scorers. Aaron Holiday and Bryce Alford each scored 20 points to share game-high honors.  Isaac Hamilton added 17 and TJ Leaf 13
