According to a report late Wednesday night from Adam Zagoria, Creighton head coach Greg McDermott has emerged as the favorite to replace Thad Matta at Ohio State.

ESPN reported Wednesday evening that McDermott met with OSU earlier in the day. ESPN's Jeff Goodman later reported that the Buckeyes have indeed offered the job to McDermott.

McDermott (52) is 445-276 in his career, and 165-81 at Creighton over seven seasons. Four of those seasons featured his son Doug, who was a first round NBA Draft pick. The Bluejays went 107-38 over those four years, but have been just 15 games over .500 total the last three seasons.

Creighton went 25-10 this year, but only 10-8 in the Big East. The 6-seed Bluejays were knocked out of the first round of the NCAA Tournament by the 11-seed Rhode Island Rams.

Prior to Creighton, McDermott spent four losing seasons at Iowa State where the Cyclones went 15-16, 14-18, 15-17, and 15-17.
